Casement window (or casement) is a window that is hung vertically, hinged one side, so that it swings inward or outward. Casement windows were the most common house window before the sash window was introduced and usually contain leaded glass.

Casement windows are typically attached to the vertical side of the window frame although they can be horizontally placed.

They are opened with a crank or a lever or cam handle placed at around hand height or at the bottom and serve as window locks.
